Alaska Days with John Muir by Smuel Hall Young

This is the journal of Samuel Hall Young organized into a book. Samuel Hall Young was a missionary adventurer to the coastal tribes of Alaska during the 1800's. He also has written some other books about his experiences as a missionary in Alaska's interior, and I would also recommend reading those books as well. Young's writing style is easy to read and I found myself wanting to just read the whole thing in one sitting. I have never been to Alaska, but I can say I have been there in my mind with Samuel Hall Young. Not only is this book about Young's relationship with John Muir, but portions of it read like a prayer, in fact some of Young's poems are prayers. Its an interesting perspective not only on Alaska during its early years of exploration, but its also an interesting perspective of John Muir as a man who not only loved nature, but who recognized the natural world as God's creation and something to look upon with wonder.

Other titles by Samuel Hall Young:
Adventures in Alaska, The Mushing Parson, The Klondike Clan
